Welcome to the August edition of the RSAS Newsletter!
Term 3 is a time that we often see a slump in attendance rates. For SASs and other senior RSAS team members, the leadership training you have done over the past few months will have equipped you with the tools and skills to boost motivation within your team and support parents and carers this Term. Last month’s webinar on ‘Compassionate communication’ gave some helpful suggestions on how to engage with students, parents and carers. Compassionate communication is about empowering yourself and others, listening and speaking without judgement and communicating how you feel.
The Train the Trainer workshops have started, providing a great opportunity to RSAS team members who would like to develop skills in public communication and delivering training to their teams and the other RSAS teams. The first of the workshops was held in Tennant Creek in July. After this training, two of the participants from Santa Teresa RSAS team used their new skills to deliver (Unit 1: Your RSAS Role) to their team at the Santa Teresa Tailored Local Workshop. Well done! Keep an eye out in the post this month as all RSAS sites will soon be receiving new communications products! This will include a range of merchandise (t-shirts, footballs, hats, drink bottles and backpacks) which can be used for rewards and incentives. We also have a new range of posters, flyers and information booklets.
This will be the first of two newsletters for the month of August.
July was another excellent month for the NESA RSAS team with the final two Leadership workshops for 2017 delivered in Coober Pedy and Umuwa in South Australia with great results.
Two Tailored Local Workshops were held in Geraldton Western Australia and Palm Island Queensland, and our first Train the Trainer Workshop was delivered in Tennant Creek.
Overall feedback was excellent for all workshops held. Participants were engaged, participating and sharing stories. Each participant finished the workshop they attended armed with tools, ideas and knowledge to share with their own RSAS teams. The NESA team is continuing to organise local workshops across the country and our second Train the Trainer Workshop will be held from 15-17 August in Broome WA.
If you would like to discuss organising a local workshop for your RSAS team, click here to contact NESA or see our contact details at the end of this bulletin.
